Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, Rouffach, Alsace, Interior 2
Alsace

Rouffach is a small village in the Alsace. It dates back to the 5th century, when it was a residence of the Merovingian kings. Due to so many historical buildings this is a really beautiful village with a charm so typical to the Alsace. Notre-Dame de l'Assomption was built in several phases. The transept was built in Romanesque style in the 11th century. The nave was built in the 13th century in Gothic style - keeping some old Romanesque elements from the former longhouse. The choir was built in High-Gothic style. Work on the church continued until the year 1508. The steeples remained anfinished. During the French Revolution the church received substantial damage. Most of the statues were destroyed.
