Round about the year 1200 the townsmen of Freiburg started to build a new parish church, the Minster of Our Lady. The building was finished in the middle of the 16th century. In the year 1827 the archdiocese of Freiburg was installed. It was then that the Minster became a cathedral – a bishops church.
