A 150' aerial view overlooking the ghost town of Hamilton, Nevada. Established in May 1868 after the discovery of a rich silver ore vein at nearby Treasure Hill, it was formerly known as Cave City & had a peak population of 12,000 by 1869. Around 200 mining companies were operating in the area & the town became the first county seat of White Pine County. The town was already in decline however the next year, dropping to 3,915 citizens & a couple fires wiped through the community in the following years. One fire destroyed the courthouse & its records, leading to county records being kept in the nearby town of Ely. The courthouse would also be relocated to Ely in 1887. The post office finally closed in 1931 & today the location has only a few visible ruins w/ other ruins scattered on Treasure Hill to the south.
