Hikers at Prieuré Saint-Michel de Nahuze, France
Languedoc-Roussillon

From Wikipedia: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prieuré_Saint-Michel_de_Nahuze

Saint-Michel de Nahuze is the ruins of priory from the 11th century, in the commune of Lagrasse (department of Aude) on the slopes of the Alaric mountain.

History

All known sources of this priory mention its direct dependence on the abbey of Lagrasse, from the 13th to the 16th century. The priory then seems abandoned.

Until the 1940s, the surrounding villagers (Lagrasse, Ribaute, Montlaur, Camplong-d'Aude) went up there on pilgrimage to ask for rain in years of drought. Legend has it that a refrain was then sung: San Miquel dona nos d'aiga, barejada amb de vin, mai de vin que d'aiga ("Saint Michael give us water, mixed with wine, more wine than water").

These ruins were registered by decree of September 27, 1948 as a historic monument1: nave with three bays, choir bay decorated externally with a Lombard band, fanned corbels, sealed white marble altar stone.
