Historical KdF-Seaside Resort Rügen, View 2
Rügen

Prora is a beach resort located on a land strip separating the Baltic Sea from the Small Jasmund Bodden (Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden). The Nazis planned a building for the mass tourisms here. With a total length of 4.5 km the building should provide enough room for more than 20,000 holidaymakers. The complex was built between 1936 and 1939 by the Nazi organization “Kraft durch Freude” (Strength through Joy). In 1939 – with the beginning of World War II the building work stopped. In 2008 it was decided to use some of the complex for a youth hostel and for tourist flats.
