These extensive ruins of a medieval palace, situated in the village of Lamphey, near Pembroke, were largely constructed by Bishop Henry de Gower in the mid-14th century. It's style and construction is similar to the one he had built adjacent to St. Davids Cathedral.

With Church and State intertwined, medieval bishops had great wealth, power and status. Such influence came to end with Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries. The Bishop’s Palace at Lamphey was surrendered to the crown in 1546. Subsequent owners failed in its upkeep and it fell into disrepair. Today it is managed by Cadw.
