The Clayton Valley sand dunes are located south of Silver Peak, Nevada & comprise a small area of clustered sand dunes w/ four significant peaks, the highest one to the south rising 280 feet above the valley floor. The immediate valleys extending south into Death Valley contain various isolated regions of sand dunes, some of them famous for their "singing sand" or booming noises often attributed to dry sand sliding down damp sand underneath. These dunes are used for off-highway vehicles however because of their remoteness see little use. The high dunes are star shaped where the smaller dunes are a mix of dome & barchanoid.
