Found at the most North-eastern point of Loch Awe , Kilchurn Castle is a very popular photographic subject for the many tourists who visit the area .
Originally erected in 1420 , then extended in the 1600's to it's current size , the castle was home to the Clan Campbell until they abandoned it around 1740 to move to their new home .
The castle was struck by lightning in 1769 and lost it's roof . It fell into ruin but some parts have been saved to allow visitors to see these parts .
Stunning views of Loch Awe and Glenstrae can be seen from these vantage points .
