Leacanabuaile Stone Fort, County Kerry
Ireland

Leacanabuaile is an ancient ring fort, originally built around the 10th century. The partly-reconstructed structure is significantly smaller than the neighbouring Cahergall Stone Fort. Its name translates as 'Hillside of the summer pastorage'.

Ireland has thousands of similar ring forts of differing sizes. They are thought to have been used as fortified residences or farmsteads.
