Russia

Fighter "MiG-17", mounted on a pedestal at the Center for Culture and Leisure in Karavanny village. The first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was flight trained on a similar plane. Yuri Gagarin's name is closely associated with Karavanny. Near the village was located a training place, where cadets of Orenburg Higher Military Aviation School held practice in 1957. Yuri Gagarin - once a cadet of Orenburg flight school also learned to fly here. Many residents of the state farm remember Gagarin, he was then only 23. In 1968, in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Komsomol, workers and employees petitioned to district and regional Soviet authorities for assignment to the state farm name of the world's first cosmonaut.
