The Palaio Frourio (Old Fort) stands prominently at the top of a rocky island on the east side of Corfu town. Fortifications were built on this site as early as the 6th century although the majority of what is left today is from the Venetians rule during the 14th century and later and much more recently , the English rule during the mids 1800.
