Pingxi used to be a town that relied on the mining industry. With the decline of the industry, the abandoned mines, railway, and old houses became an asset to Pingxi’s tourism development. The most popular folk activity is the “Sky Lantern Festival”. Every year the festival attracts thousands of people to join the event and is as famous as the Firework Festival in Tainan.
