During the construction of the Second Harbor in 1967, Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau entrusted the architect, Mr.Huang, Chi-Wan, to design and construct two towers in the shapes of the Chinese character “Gao” (literally, “high”): one is located at Hongmaogang, and the other at Cijin. The two structures were to serve as northern and southern signal stations to guide container ships entering and leaving the port.Having been deserted for 35 years, the tower at Hongmaogang was transformed into the Gaozih Tower Art Cultural Park in 2001, under the Urban and Rural Renewal Project of Council of Cultural Affairs. There are all kinds of local, cultural and artistic exhibitions in the Cultural Park that provide a spiritual trip besides enjoying the ocean breeze and the sunset.
Perched at the promontory of the second port, it is the best spot for watching ships or containers coming into and going from of the Port of Kaohsiung.People can count ships that arrived with exotic cargos and leave with Taiwanese products. These ships are like spiritual pockets that collect everyone’s sentiments and invite you to go visiting the world.
