Sunrise At Tasman Glacier
New Zealand

Photographer’s Notes:

As the sun rises from the East the tops of the higher peaks of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park are the first to catch its rays.
We had spent the night in Ball Shelter, which if you look closely towards the lake at the end of the Glacier and a bit to the right, you’ll see the small 3 person hut about as far back against the beginning of the rise of the ridge. Our plan was to follow this ridge up the side of the Ball Glacier as far as we could then return back to Ball Shelter and out back to the car park near the end of the Tasman Glacier. This had been our 2nd attempt to find the “way” up towards Caroline hut. The track seems only to be marked by cairn, and these can be very hard to follow in the areas where there has been rock falls. We did however make it up to an amazing view over the Ball Glacier and from here we could see the East Ridge of Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand.
