"The Ropes" Trail Head
Arizona
This 360 spherical panorama was taken at the historic start of “The Ropes” trail head near Page, AZ. The Ropes trail follows a fissure in the cliff face several feet down and provides access to the Colorado River only 1-1/2 miles downstream from its discharge from Glen Canyon Dam. The trail has several drops that need to be climbed, as well as lots of exposure to falling. At the river level in this panorama one can view the social trails on the beach that lead from the river bank to a pit toilet just out of view. This is the Rope Campground. It is one of six campgrounds between Glen Canyon dam and Lee’s Ferry where boat traffic must take out. Looking across the river, out of site, but less than a half mile from the rim, is the city of Page, AZ. Look just below the far rim and you can see several black holes in the cliff face that appear to be caves. However, the holes were made for testing of the sandstone in preparation for construction of Glen Canyon dam.
