At the top of Carson Pass, California is this out-of-place grave of an unknown pioneer just off the main highway. The pass itself was a passageway to the California Gold Rush of 1849 & later a shipping route for the American Civil War until the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The grave reads the following:
The Unknown Pioneer
1849
Here rests one whose name is known only to our Creator. He was one of a valiant cavalcade who brought honor and stability to the character of California. They had Faith in God, Faith in Themselves, Faith in their Fellowmen
Reverently dedicated August 27, 1950, by the Odd Fellows of California, assisted by their brothers of Nevada.
