Aerial view (about 50') at Lake Mountain near Scott Bar, California. The peak is comprised of red peridotite as is nearby Tom Martin Peak (except for the top of that summit). From here one gets fantastic views of the Scott Bar Mountains, Marble Mountains, Boulder Peak, Marble Rim, Black Marble Mountain, Kings Castle, distant Preston Peak, the Red Buttes, massive Condrey Mountain (& Dry Lake Mountain), Cottonwood Peak, & Mt. Shasta in the clouds. The lookout tower site has been established since 1912.
As a floral side note, the Lake Mountain summit area is also known to house foxtail pine, a relatively rare species of pine found only in California in high elevations. There is a southern population in the Sierra Nevada & a northern population in the Klamath Mountains, with Lake Mountain being the northernmost identified location.
