The Church of São Miguel is erected in a place where, since 1213, there is news of the existence of a temple, whose property is attributed to the Templars.
Elevated to Sé Conc Catedral in 1956, it was rebuilt in the 17th century, in the Renaissance style. The elements of the different construction phases are visible: a 16th century cross arch, altarpieces and panels from the 17th century and a chancel and sacristy from the 18th to 19th centuries.
Due to the scarcity of means to make a monumental work, it was D. Martim Afonso de Melo, Bishop of Guarda, who rebuilt it in the last quarter of the 17th century.
It has only one nave that is separated from the chancel by a beautiful Renaissance arch, on the closure of which is the coat of arms of Bishop D. Martim Afonso de Melo.
The second bishop of the diocese of Castelo Branco, Frei Vicente Ferrer da Rocha (1782-1814), owes the construction (in Baroque style) of the two lateral bodies, with which the temple was enlarged: the Sacristy Grande and the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
