Located next to Lianchihtan, north of the Service Center, this park was once used as a large irrigation reservoir. The park was originally zoned as a standard park, which would cover 10 hectares of land; however, after much petitioning with the Public Works Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, it has been adopted by Wetlands Taiwan. This is now the location of the "Return of the Pheasant-Tailed Jacana Project". The soil was prepared, and water was released into the area, creating a man-made wetland environment. Now many wetland creatures inhabit the area, such as aquatic insects, mollusks, fish and reptiles. This natural regeneration attracted the return of birds to the Chouchai Wetland Park, such that now, many amphibians and over 90 kinds of birds search for food here, making it a wetland park with a rich and diverse ecology. The atmosphere at "Chouchai Wetlands" allows people to leave the city behind to enjoy the wildlife and a beautiful natural environment. In recent years there has been greater attention paid to wetlands parks and their ecologies. Besides the Chouchai Wetlands, southern Taiwan also boasts the Yuanjhong Wetlands Park, the Ecological Pond at the Museum of Fine Art, Niaosong Wetlands Park, Gaoping River, Old Railway Bridge Wetlands Park, Cigu Wetlands in Tainan ,and Natural Ecological Wetlands Park in Chiayi.
