The architectural complex began to be built in the beginning of the 17th century, under the aegis of the Bishop of Guarda, D.Nuno de Noronha. Inserted in the Floor Style, it exhibits facades of great austerity, stripped of any decorative elements, with the exception of the cornice, where typical cannon gargoyles are inserted. It is a large U-shaped architectural ensemble, in the center of which the Episcopal Palace Chapel was built, flanked to the south by the body of the former Seminary where the Museum of Guarda is located, and to the north by the former Episcopal Palace, current Palace of Culture.
