Kaohsiung International Airport served as a military airport during the Japanese Occupation, and it also was one of the most important military bases in sSouthern Taiwan. Not until 1965 did it begian the service of civil and air cargo transportation, and later became the second largest international airport in Taiwan.
In addition, there is a vast view on the north side of the airport, and thus a lot of aviation fans like to gather here, watching planes taking off and landing. As a result, many café terraces have opened for business. To have a cup of coffee while watching planes has becomes a new kind of urban leisure activity.
