Paços Novos, Paços do Castelo, or Paços Reais, with quadrangular plan, in the dimensions of 33m x 21m was the residence palace. It consists of lateral towers of 4 floors and a central body of 3. On the lower floor, there is a large hall with three robust Gothic arches (Hall of Arches), while on the second floor two smaller halls served the day-to-day the palace (kitchen, cellar, bedroom). On the third floor, the royal rooms are located at the ends, divided by the Salão Nobre (Audience Hall) that opened onto a gallery or loggia of Mediterranean Gothic arcade from where you can enjoy a beautiful landscape over the city. Two bodies that flank it constitute a fourth floor, which had its interior divided by, at the time, luxurious sanitary facilities. Here the Courts of 1433 took place, to the oath of King D. Duarte (1433-1438), and those of 1438, on the continuation of the Portuguese expansion in Morocco and the liberation of the Infante D. Fernando, prince of Avis (died in 1443). They are also an illustrative example of the current restoration options in Portugal in the 1930s-1960s.
