The Skylight room hinges between the east volume of the Palace and the south volume where the princess's rooms are located, and has a connection with the Chapel. Because it had no contact with the outside, it was called the Dark Room. During the first French invasion, Junot gave the order to open this lantern, sacrificing the decoration of the painted canvas ceiling. This work was never completed, due to the workers' lack of payment, and it was at the end of 1809 that D. João VI ordered the replacement of the lantern as the French had planned.
The Regent Infanta D. Isabel Maria, administrator of the Infantado´s House on behalf of Brother Infante D.Miguel, had this room restored during the period of the Infante's exile in Vienna, Austria, to house it after his return in 1828. Despite this did not happen, the painted portrait of D. Miguel painted in 1824 by Giovanni Ender in Vienna dominated this room.
