Østerlars Round Church is found to the south of the village of Gudhjem on Bornholm. It is the oldest Round Church on the island and dates back to the twelfth century. This style of architecture is exceptionally unusual in Danish churches. The underside of the roof dates back to the church’s foundations, and three of the supporting pillars are runic stones whose inscriptions are eleventh century. The church contains very old wall frescoes dating from the fourteenth century.
