There is little of the original Norman building that can be seen at the parish church of St Newlyn East. The church was enlarged in the 14th and 15th centuries and heavily restored in 1843 and again in 1883 by JP Seddon. The rood screen dates from this period as does the roof of the chancel. The Royal Coat of Arms is of King Charles I and was re-painted and gilded in 2002.
