The fort occupies an area of approximately 114,000 m2 and was inaugurated on September 28, 1914. Its construction, in form of a bunker, was a challenge to military engineering. The external walls facing the sea, with 12m of thick, host the Krupp German guns (305mm, 190mm and 75mm), settlers in armoured and turntables domes .

The Fort stays between the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. The view the photo is the end of Copacabana, with the Sugar Loaf in the background.
