Tälliboden - Monte Moropass 1
Italy

This panorama was photographed at Tälliboden, 2,492 m, close to the River Saaser Vispa, on the continuation of the Monte Moropass trail, on a long, flat area with information boards for the various trails. Here you should take a break and rest.

From Tälliboden, 2,492 m, the somewhat treacherous path climbs over the rocks along the original Walser trail. After the rocky steps and just before the top of the pass, you reach a depression almost entirely covered in solid snow. After crossing the snow, you reach rocky terrain again, and finally reach the pass that offers you a breathtaking view of the majestic east face of Monte Rosa, the Joderhorn and the Madonnina perched on a rocky spur that is the symbol of the pass. The view directly in front of the statue of the Madonna is incredible. This is where the Monte Rosa Tour passes.

This mountain pass was often used by smugglers in the past. On the Italian side, there is also the Oberto Maroli restaurant and the cable car station that connects Monte Moro to Staffa, Macugnaga, if you want to continue towards Italy. Or, you can return along the same route towards Switzerland. It is an unforgettable route and one worth repeating, with July and August being the best months.

The Monte Moro Pass is an Alpine pass located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It connects Saas-Almagell, in the Swiss canton of Valais, to Staffa, Macugnaga, in the Italian region of Piedmont. Historically, Monte Moro has been an important border crossing between the Saas and Anzasca valleys. It is one of the highest passes on the Monte Rosa Tour.

More About Italy

The name "Italy" is shrouded in mystery; some etymologists trace it to a Greek word meaning "the land of young cattle."Italy was fond of Jupiter and Mars from the very start, Jupiter for fatherly good luck and Mars for war!But it all began with Rome. Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus who were sons of Rhea and Mars. The twins were abandoned at birth out of a fear that they would grow up and later overthrow Amelius, usurper of their grandfather's rightful throne.Wrongful mis-doings most foul! Treachery and sabotage!! HOW would these two blessed infants make their way in such a world? As it turns out, the twins didn't have to make their way very far, because one of them killed the other one and then they weren't twins anymore. But that happens later.First they got rescued by a she-wolf who suckled them with her milk and raised them as her own until they were discovered by the shepherd Faustulus.Faustulus fed them meat and bread and also raised them as his own until they were old enough to return to Amelius and hack him up as planned. They reinstated the grandfather Numitor to his rightful throne and went off to celebrate by starting a town of their own. They chose a hilly area where the mama wolf had saved them from certain death in the barren wilderness and began scouting locations.Romulus liked one hill. Remus liked another. The circle of crows like Romulus' hill, so Romulus killed Remus and named the town after himself. Thus Rome was born and Italy with it.Text by Steve Smith.
