These are very special pigeon lofts. They are actually underground, in caves dug out from the tuff stone. The towers are like big chimneys, about 3 meters high. They protect the pigeons inside the cave from enemies like cats and the stairs on top offer a place to rest. This area has hundreds of these towers. That shows the importance of the pigeon guano for the farmers.
