Transfagarasan
Arges

Transfăgărăşan was built between 1970 and 1974. Perhaps a brief presentation in figures is difficult to follow, but for those who have the patience to read it, said the achievement is worth the 92 miles of road have been deployed around three million tonnes of rock have been 830 Cross works and 290,000 cubic meters of masonry. To achieve the Goat Tunnel - Balea have been excavated over 41,000 cubic meters of rock. Also, they used 20 tons of dynamite, 3,573 tons of cement, 89 tons of steel concrete anchors 24 000, 129 tons of welded mesh, 14,200 square feet of casing, tubing 1750 meters of concrete, 4,100 meters of pipe, 50 tons of metal, 6,900 cubic meters of sand, 6,000 cubic meters of gravel, chippings 3000 and 740 tons of lighting lamps.

Among those who have worked to build Transfagarasan, now retired, some more talk with one sacrifice was the road that goes to heaven. Before you could not move mountains or even on horseback. But it says that at some point Nicolae Ceausescu, when Romania was not yet president, passed through the village Arefu and got the idea that a road should be cut mountains. During the work, just as in Vidraru people died. Unfortunately, no documents had been kept for historical figures. But those who say that it's survived for hundreds of human sacrifices. Many of those who died have not even been found to have fallen through the gaps. It is said that the construction of the tunnel, the miners who were involved in assembling explosives join the others were held, each 20 to 30, not to be taken by storm and thrown into the abyss.
A moving story of man in man refers to a monk named Nektarios. After building it went Transfagarasan drive a Trabant, by Capra, where he was surprised by an avalanche. He left the car under the awning of the Goat and he fell on the snow, being led by the "wave". They say he escaped with his life so, while they found her car just after 6 months when the snow melted.
