The Utah State Capitol, seen from the southwest. Yoshino cherry trees are in full bloom along the Philo T. Farnsworth Promenade which encircles the capitol. In 1888, the Salt Lake City Council gave approximately 20 acres of land to the territorial government at the time for the establishment of a new statehouse. Over many years, the capitol grounds have been expanded through further land purchases to grow to near 40 acres.
