This is an iconic summer picture of rural England.
As soon as we arrived in Devon, we noticed the abundance of wild flowers in the hedgerows. Apparently, the long, hard winter had caused virtually everything to explode into a rainbow of colours at the same time. The problem was finding a spot where the flowers were blooming on both sides of the road.
I was navigating at the time and had managed to get us completely lost by the time we came across this spot, but as we were having a flaming row, the last thing I wanted to do was to take photographs. The result: we had to spend the following afternoon retracing our steps trying to find this location again.
Devon lanes are very narrow. After I had finished the shot, a car came along, I stepped backwards -- into a bed of nettles. Sorel thought this was very funny, but I had the last laugh. She had to spend the evening rubbing ointment into my bottom!
