Porta Sempione ("Simplon Gate") is a city gate of Milan, Italy. The name "Porta Sempione" is used both to refer to the gate proper and to the surrounding district ("quartiere"), a part of the Zone 1 division (the historic city centre), including the major avenue of Corso Sempione.[1] The gate is marked by a landmark triumphal arch called Arco della Pace ("Arch of Peace"), dating back to the 19th century, but its origins can be traced back to a gate of the Roman walls of Milan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Sempione
Italy’s and perhaps the world’s capital of fashion and design, Milano is home to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, which is possibly the world’s oldest shopping mall. The city is currently undergoing an architectural renaissance, which will culminate in a new skyline for the Expo 2015, which will be hosted in Milano. Visitors can take advantage of an extensive public transportation system, which includes metro, buses, trolleys and trams.
