Tasmania is divided into seven forest regions. The Southern Region occupies the southern quarter of Tasmania with wet eucalypt being the dominant forest type. The Arve River Picnic Ground is deep inside this region and forest type. It serves as a hiking trail-head for the Arve River Nature Walk and is an ideal spot for a summer barbeque or for a quiet rest on the banks of the Arve, one of the main rivers of the Southern Region.
