High above the romantic Neckar valley is Hirschhorn Castle, a late Hohenstaufen fortification from the 12th Century. In the 14th and 15 Century, the castle was further expanded, especially in view of the emerging firearms. The castle was the most modern military fortress in the Neckar valley. In the 16th and 17 Century it was converted into a Renaissance castle.
