The Ice House in Holkham Park According to an adjacent noticeboard, it is thought that this thatched Ice House may be one of the oldest buildings in the Park, at least early 18th century, apart from the church. The rectangular northern section of the building was added at a later date to the original bell type structure. Standing towards the southern end of The Lake, the Ice House was originally associated with a walled ice pound which fell into disuse in the 18th century, probably when it apparently became fashionable to use imported ice.
