River levels on Walsden Water reached record levels on Boxing Day 2015, with the stretch between Walsden and Todmorden peaking at 3.04m near Salford (the previous recorded high was 1.98m). Slightly upstream here at Gauxholme the high waters tore away at an exposed river bank, removing concrete defences, damaging an already frail river wall, and washing away soil and plants. Compare this with the same view six months earlier.
