Flour windmills were an indispensable part of the landscape Mezen villages. In 1870 they numbered Mezensky county sixty. With the advent of electricity, useless, they are dilapidated and falling. On Mezeni left three dilapidated, dilapidated mill, two in the fire victims and one in Kizhma. 

Burnt down the village - one of the oldest settlements in the Mezen earth. The village is situated on a hill, surrounded by streams, forests and rivers. Villagers were able to preserve the architectural complex, which includes the Church of St John the Baptist built in 1896, two windmills, and huge houses - two-storey mansion with spacious district. 

Mezen windmills called mill-stolbovki. The basis of their was dug into the ground post, surrounded by powerful ryazhem a log - log cabins, tapering upwards. Ryazhevaya felling left open gaps between the logs, which prevented their rapid decay and gave additional stability throughout the construction, which should have different special strength, since Mezeni often blow gusty northerly winds and mill were placed on high open places. Mill burnt down in the village notable for their height. With the advent of electricity, useless, they are dilapidated and falling.
