As the name implies, the VIP Room was created to be a kind of business card for Casa da Música, a distinct and particularly formal space for the institution. However, it has been used mainly for events such as small press conferences, receptions, cocktails or even record releases.
At its root was the objective of establishing a bridge between Portuguese and Dutch cultures, not only because - with seminal importance for Casa da Música - that Porto and Rotterdam divided the status of European Capital of Culture in 2001, as still for being Koolhaas, a Dutchman, the author of the project of the most emblematic contemporary building in the city. This purpose was accomplished with the application of tile panels from both origins, evoking a connection between Portuguese and Dutch potters, painters and potters that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century.
