Utah's Great Salt Lake is the largest salt water lake in the Western Hemisphere. It has an average depth of 33 feet & is 75 miles in length by 28 miles wide. It is only a remnant of the larger Lake Bonneville in which former lakeshore lines are visible on the nearby mountain ranges. The lake fluctuates in size & creates its own lake-effect precipitation. This view was taken near the Spiral Jetty, the shoreline completely encrusted w/ flattened salt crystals & layers of glittering foam.
