Scotney Old Castle, Kent
England

Scotney Old Castle is a ruined 14th century fortification built on two islands surrounded by a moat. It was intended to defend against French raids during the Hundred Years war. It never saw military action.

It was extensively rebuilt as a fortified manor house during the Elizabethan period and remained a family home until the 19th century. Today the castle and wooded estate are run by the National Trust.
