Serra Da Estrela, Viewpoint of Poio Do Judeu
Portugal

This plateau during the Serra da Estrela Glaciation, would have had a small permanent cover of snow, or ice but without movement. It would be an area with less snowfall, with strong winds from the West and Northwest. The so-called Nave de Santo António is on the east side of this plateau, characterized by being a flattened area that kept the moreno deposits well preserved. Morenic deposits can vary from large blocks to small debris with only a few centimeters in diameter.

Erratic blocks are large blocks dragged across the glacier and deposited along its course. These blocks, as well as the morays, are marks of the advance and retreat of the glacier language. We can find streaked blocks, due to ice erosion or fractures, resulting from the collision action with other blocks. There are several vestiges of morays in the region, such as the Espinhaço de Cão moray and in the Nave de Stº António region, around the Poio do Judeu which is the largest erratic block in the Serra da Estrela. There are also other blocks such as Poio do Leão next to the Municipal market in Manteigas.

From this point we can see to the north the largest glacial valley of the Serra da Estrela, the Zêzere Valley. The Zêzere Valley develops in an extensive alignment, which continues southwards through the Ribeira da Alforfa valley and which corresponds to the great fault of Vilariça.
