Completed in 1976 by environmental artist Nancy Holt, the Sun Tunnels are located in the middle of the Great Basin desert near the ghost town of Lucin, Utah & consist of four concrete culverts about 18 feet in length that are positioned in alignment w/ the summer & winter solstices during sunsets or sunrises. At the top are bored holes that mimic certain constellations & vary in size depending on the star's size in reality when viewed from earth. When the sun is overhead the holes cast spots of lights w/in each tunnel. Best time to visit are during the solstices or as a means to keep in the shade during a warm day.
