13th and Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA
Philadelphia
13th Street and Market in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is just down the street from the Philadelphia City Hall, visible in this panorama. Market Street is known as the most historic road in America due to the number of important historic sites in its eastern section. Some of the most famous sites include Independence National Historic Park home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. One block away from where this panorama was taken is the Reading Terminal, the former railway station for the Reading Railroad. Originally, Market Street was known as High Street when it was founded by William Penn in about 1681 and 1682. The two widest streets were High (now Market) and Broad Street. The central square, now occupied by the City Hall, was designated as a market. By 1701 the City had over 2,500 inhabitants. Today, Philadelphia is the 5th largest city in the United States, between Houston, Texas as number four and Phoenix, Arizona as number six.
