Black Butte (7448'/2270m) summit
California

View from the summit of Black Butte (elev. 7,448') b/w Covelo & Orland, California.  The peak is one of the high points in this region of the Coast Mountains w/ rather broad high ridges & summits in the vicinity.  To the east one can see the broad expanse of the Central Valley.  In August 2020, a series of lightning strikes sparked 38 individual fires that later merged into the August Complex Fire.  From August 16 to November 12, 2020, the fire burned a total of 1,032,648 acres including this area, which is slightly larger than Rhode Island, making it the biggest complex fire in recorded California history.  Mt. Linn, at just over 8,000 feet, is visible to the north & Snow Mountain to the south.
