The Gliwice Aeroclub was established in 1955. At present the following divisions are run there: airplane, parachute, glider, modelling and microflight. The club offers many interesting courses for people interested in sky adventures. The airport is located in the Trynek district, about 2 km from the city centre. It is provided with 2 runways with dimensions of 600x400m and 770x400m. The Gliwice airport serves sanitary, fire-fighting and private airplanes and helicopters. Since 2007 the airport of Gliwice Aeroclub has been the seat of Medical Air Rescue for the Province of Silesia. The airport, besides its basic functions, is also a place of concerts, outdoor events, air shows, model contests as well as an excellent place for walks.
