Bay at the Back of the Ocean, Iona
Scotland

The Bay at the Back of the Ocean is the literal translation from Scottish Gaelic for the inlet on the west coast of the Isle of Iona. The next landfall across the Atlantic Ocean is Newfoundland.

Iona is a small island, located close to the southwest tip of the larger Isle of Mull, in the Inner Hebrides. The island has been the symbolic centre of Scottish Christianity since the 1st century, when Columba landed at a nearby beach in 563 to establish a monastry. To this day Iona remains a centre of pilgrimage with 130,000 visitors each year adding to the 130 permanent residents.
