Crookston Castle is the only surviving medieval castle in Glasgow and the second oldest building in the city after Glasgow Cathedral. It was built around 1400 by the Stewarts of Darnley on earthworks constructed some three centuries earlier.
It has an unusual layout, comprising a high central tower, with four square corner towers, although only one tower remains intact. As with many old Scottish buildings it has a link to Mary, Queen of Scots! It is said to be where she became betrothed to Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley.
