Diamond Valley Lake is a man made reservoir located near Hemet in Southern California. Fishing and boating are popular attractions and a 21 mile trail circling the lake allows visitors to hike or bike around the lake. The record drought in California has necessitated a record draw down of the level of the reservoir. Between June 2011 and March 2016, 477,000 acre feet of water has been taken from the 800,000 acre foot capacity reservoir. As a result, the water level has fallen 107 feet. Many outcrops and islands, covered since the filling of the reservoir in 2002, now lie exposed.
