INDONESIA - East Java - Kawah Ijen Sulfur Mining
Indonesia

This panorama was shot at the bottom of the crater of Kawah Ijen, where the sulfur miners extract the sulfur deposits. They carry and extremely heavy load of sulfur rocks on their shoulders with bamboo baskets, and get paid according to the weight of the sulfur they bring to the station.

The crater lake is the world's biggest lake of acid. It is pure sulfuric acid and its pH is 0.5.
