Langjökull (Icelandic for "long glacier") is the second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2), after Vatnajökull. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic interior or Highlands of Iceland and can be seen clearly from Haukadalur. (Source Wikipedia).
The glacier can be reached from the Kaldidalur highland road which you can see on this panorama.
We visited the glacier with a "superjeep", a large 4x4 vehicle that is ideal for visiting the inland of Iceland. In order to go up the glacier, the airpressure in the tires is dramatically reduced to allow for better grip on the ice. After visiting the glacier, the tires are re-inflated with a generator.
Also note the remains of a rainbow over the glacier.
